HIM-Guest: Jason Evan Stalnaker

Prof. Stalnaker of Oberlin College stays at HIM from June to August

"I work on high-precision spectroscopy experiments using stabilized optical frequency combs.  These investigations include precision frequency measurements of transitions in atomic lithium and direct-frequency comb spectroscopy of atomic vapors.   At Mainz I will work with Professor Budker on atomic physics tests of fundamental physics."

Current Position:
Associate Professor of Physics
Department of Physics and Astronomy
Oberlin CollegeOhio, USA

Research Interests:
High-precision atomic spectroscopy, Precision tests of fundamental physics using atomic systems, Atomic magnetometry, Femotosecond frequency combs, Optical frequency standards.

Victor Flambaum, guest at HIM, officially welcomed as new Gutenberg Research College Fellow

The Gutenberg Research College (GRC), the central strategic instrument to promote top-level research at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), celebrates its tenth anniversary today. The GRC was established in 2007 during the first phase of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments. The new GRC fellows are outstanding academics and artists originating from JGU and elsewhere who will be provided with special support by the GRC to enable them to dedicate themselves to research and the arts at Mainz University. To date, the GRC has awarded 51 fellowships.

Almost 11 000 visitors at Open House of GSI and FAIR

isitors received an opportunity to be researchers and discoverers for a day on Sunday, May 7, at the Open House event of the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung and the future FAIR accelerator center

Almost 11 000 visitors came to the campus in Darmstadt to view the research stations, laboratories, and experimental setups. GSI and FAIR had opened their doors to guests for eight hours, and thousands of curious visitors, including many families, took advantage of this very well organized event to take a look behind the scenes of one of the leading particle accelerator centers for fundamental research in physics.

SFB 1044

The Institute of Nuclear Physics in Mainz and the Collaborate Research Center 1044 (SFB 1044) hold its annual SFB School in Boppard, which covers the current research activities of the SFB 1044.
